Vortech SC Belt problem - HELP
A week ago I put a new Vortech SC belt on because my other one got really loose and came off. It tore a hole in the liner but everything else seemed fine. I found pieces of the belt in different parts of the engine bay. The install went smoothly thanks to XVIPER. A day later it got loose again which I found out was because I didn't tighten the bolt enough that keeps the belt tightening bolt secure/tight. So I bought an angled, rachetting 19mm wrench and really tightened it good. I mean, I can hardly move it the 1/4 of an inch that the manual specifies. The belt remained tight and the car was much faster.
Just yesterday during one of my daily, how's my belt doing check-ups, I noticed the belt is slightly off of the pulley. There are lots of ridges on the pulley and my belt is off up until the first ridge so maybe 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch. I checked belt tension and it feels tight, not loose like before when the belt started coming off. It is making a crazy sound, like a loud chirping sound. I think it could be the edge of the belt rubbing on the smaller pulley directly below the main one (the one where the belt goes on the inside of it). I am not sure though. The belt still feels tight. The sound is loud enough to hear while driving or from 50 ft away. It is not one of the normal sounds of the belt going around the pulley or the SC making its normal noise.
I think I am going to loosen the belt, re-align it, then tighten it all back up and see if the problem continues.
Any thoughts on why my belt is slipping off? Could it just be that I should tighten it even more? I don't want to overtighten it but these directions where you measure how tight it should be just by twisting with your hands strikes me as a bit odd/not exact.
Thanks everyone

Was the belt installed on all of the pulley grooves? It's possible to install the belt off the with one of the belt's grooves off the pulley. Then the edge of the belt gets cut by the pulley. Do you have any pics?
