A while ago, I tried going into vtec (accelerating in first until ~8000 rpm), but I didn't really feel VTEC at all. It wasn't bogging or anything, but I couldn't feel a noticeable surge in power or sound for that matter. It felt like a linear increase in power, but no surge that I hear people talking about.

I checked the forums, and people said that it is mostly due to oil starvation, but I had only recently done an oil change with Mobil 1 synthetic. Can anyone please pitch in on what the problem could be? My car is a bone stock AP1. Thanks.
Any issues before the oil change? What weight oil did you use? i have no idea if it is true, but i've heard that VTEC won't work if the oil is too thick (as in a cold engine....................)

Just an idea.

Clogged screen can cause it, but that's not it.

Number one cause for VTEC that is not working is a dirty air filter.

Second is a bad MAP sensor.

Was the engine warm, or did you just start it up?

So after you start rolling in first gear (2.5K-3K RPM) and push the throttle completely in, there is no abrupt acceleration at 6K?

If you are casually accelerating (partial throttle) and go past 6K there is just the linear acceleration that you are talking about.

I just got the S. It's hot, but can't feel the VTEC. Is it 7000 to 8000 only?
