vtec not working
honda's had my 05 w/ 28,000 miles on it for two days now and they can't figure out why i've lost vtec. long story short: went in on friday to replace timing chain tensioner. vtec worked fine before it went in, but afterwards no vtec. we've checked oil, operating temp and the vtec solenoid and all is fine. engine's throwing no codes either. now they want it longer, so i'm going into a rental car tomorrow. what would be the correlation between a tct job and losing vtec? if something dropped inside the engine, i'd have more problems than just vtec, right?
thanks in advance.

oh, i'm driving it tomorrow to work. no worries doing that, right? also, isn't there a pin that has to be withdrawn or something when you replace the tct? would a bad install of the tct only render vtec disabled?

I am sure they pulled the pin if they have any idea. its the only reason for the maintenance hole in the front. You could open it up and look yourself. If the pin were to fall in it would be right there in a pool of oil with the cam chain. Not a good thing to be rattling around in there. But probably not going to affect vtec. I am thinking it has something to do with the wires and solenoid that is right above the tct box. If they weren't careful they could have pulled out a wire or stripped one or something to that effect. They need to run a voltage tester and drive it into vtec to see if the solenoid is getting voltage. I hope they know all of this already though.
Maybe they disconnected the electrical connector at the VTEC solenoid, or broke the wire going to the connector. Have they checked to make sure voltage is getting to the solenoid?
Given the solenoid voltage and oil pressure the VTEC pins will (almost always) engage, so one or the other (voltage or pressure) is probably missing.
