In '04 when I was looking for my car I test drove a used S2K at a Mercedes dealership. I drove just out of site and then hammered it. About where the VTEC should kick in, I heard a loud bang and it felt like I'd driven into a brick wall. I guess that would be the limiter..... The check engine light came on too and it didn't run so good after that. I drove the car back and told the dealer I'd have to think about it. I sure didn't buy that car and I learned my lesson to never do that to my own!

I personally wait about 2-3 minutes after 3 bars. The reason being is I can hear the difference between cold and hot. It makes a "tight engine noise" when it's cold. It takes about that time for that noise to stop.

Next time you take your car for a spin cold (30 seconds-1 minute idle is best) listen to the engine sound. You'll see and feel it change shortly after 3 bars.

 

Racer, alot of people believe that because the engine is cold and running in open loop that the added fuel being dumped will make the car feel/go faster. Which in open loop the engine will dump more fuel to help up the warming process of the engine. But Im sure everyone here will agree that an engine runs a lot better when properly warmed up.

delicately slide in to not injure the seat.
check mirrors
turn key
press engine start button (ALWAYS with thumb, as in "thumbs up")
turn on radar detector
that cool turbo sound kicks in under the hood
get that top down
shift through all gears with clutch in
slowly pull out of garage to not hit trees
drive 2-3 miles before "vtec-ing"
that's it.
