UPDATE! I just did a parts run to the dealer and I got 2 new filters. I glanced inside and guess whats inside!!!?? Thats right!! SLAG! A tiny mirror can allow you to see in and around the bottom of that spring. Its impossible to check in and around the bottom of that spring with just your eye. This particular one can be seen with just your eye. I missed it the first time and had to re-type this post because I thought they were good to go. They are NOT unfortunately. It was hiding under the top edge of the spring cage from my view, straight down into the filter. Look closely and do NOT tap or beat the filter around. This will cause the pieces to move and get stuck on the backside of the threaded endcap and possibly pass through a hole in the core. Remove them from where they are, and check thoroughly before using the filter. And for what its worth the numbers on these new filters appear to be an uncoded manufacture date. I would read it as 18th day, November of 2024. I have a feeling that most people will NOT see these in their filter. I would advise triple checking them and look for the piece to be slightly larger than a grain of salt, give or take. They are a really dark gunmetal in color to black. The photos of inside are slightly blurry due to the plastic still being on the filter.

@ Cosmomiller:

I use the Purflux LS 350 at the Moment, it has a tradtional square gasket. This exakt filter with a blue colour, Honda Printing and the Japanese O-ring gasket was the OEM Honda Filter in Europe for years, manufactured by Purflux for Honda.
I tourqe the LS 350 with about 15 Nm, wich equals more than a 3/4 turn. Belive me, this thing give you a good fight the next time you try to change the filter.
But, of course, i use a filter secure device for peace of mind. One of these with a big hose clamp around the filter. Better be safe than sorry.

So what are thoughts on oil filter filter concept? (Posted earlier)

A rig with an electric oil pump and another, generic filter, and a place to install new S filter. Run clean oil through new filter, any debris caught in generic filter. Side effect, new filter prefilled for you.

Estimate <$100

I mean in theory it should work after you have manually cleaned the filter. I would not rely on oil being pumped through alone to break a stuck one loose. Its possible but if you can see them beforehand I would remove them with a small screwdriver that is lightly magnetized. Then pump oil through for piece of mind. It would catch any loose ones that you may have missed in the sacrificial filter. Im sure heat and oil pressure fluctuations could cause them to break free. If you touch them they come loose. Problem is the ones you cannot see with your eye.

You could but I dont recommend putting a strong magnet inside the filter. It may cause local magnetization inside core. I used a small flat head with a light magnetic pull on the tip.

The old dark blue filters often had people complaining about the red oil light stuck on for a second. Perhaps this has been a long standing issue. I couldn't find anything with my myopic vision.

Would this be a problem?

Thanks!

I still have a few dark blue filters fortunately. Did the folks bother to pre fill their filter before installing? May explain the 1 second delay if not. As far as these light blue filters, I sure as hell won't be using any of them until somebody at Honda figures out if this a bad batch or what! When I run out of the old ones I have, I'll have hunted out a proper aftermarket option. Who the hell wants to pick slag out of a filter before slapping it on your S2000?? Somebody should complain on bookface or toktik, I'm sure Honda would hear about it fast enough.

Its not a bad batch. My filters were over 2.5yrs apart in production at least. What I mean by the delay is EVERY time the car is cranked. That orange rubber valve holds the oil in the filter so it has oil for the next start. However, they dont always work and will allow the oil drain back. Its just as if you just changed the oil without priming the filter.
