Default water injection

I just finished my install of my comptech non-intercooled s/c. I have just ordered a E-manage and plan on running larger injectors. I've been doing quite a bit of research on the water injection systems and wonder if anyone on the boards has had any experience with them. All the cars I read about that ran the water injection also had a FMIC. I'm trying to see if I can just run the water injection w/out getting the aftercooler or by adding a FMIC. If I need to add a FMIC I might as well just purchase the aftercooler kit.

This is on a non-tracked S2k that is more for leisure. If I remember correctly - a few cars without the aftercooler that had dynos of the car after installing a aftercooler was not that impressive - at least not for 1200. I can pretty much install a water injection for $250. I know a lot of the DSM and BMW cars run the water injection system. Also keep in mind that I drive my car maybe twice a week.

What are all of your thoughts?

Ray

You might be in luck.

Hecash has a water-cooled comptech sc, you might want to pm him.
Also, try searching here and on s2kca, there might be some threads about it..

I might be off, but I think you are perhaps confused about "water injection", since you said, "I'm trying to see if I can just run the water injection w/out getting the aftercooler or by adding a FMIC."
There are two types of "water injection". The traditional kind is where water is injected into the intake manifold. This water goes into the combustion chamber and becomes part of the air/fuel mix. The other one is where water is sprayed onto the cooling fins of an intercooler (or aftercooler). This serves to improve the efficiency of the IC and makes the intake charge going through the IC achieve a lower temperature.
If you do not have an IC, and you want "water injection", you must go with the first type and this would involve a whole different engine dynamics.

Water injection is completely different from water cooling. Water injection is a method of increasing massflow through the engine while simultaneously decreasing peak temperatures. It can definitely increase power (if everything is tuned right) at the cost of only being available for a short time (because you can't afford the weight of carrying very much water).

As an added benefit, water injection prevents carbon deposits from forming in the combustion chanber. It's like having the inside of the chamber steam-cleaned every time you use it . Aquamist makes some nice systems. The only downside that I know of is if you tune the car with the injection on and have no automatic means of changing tune without the injection, you don't want to run out of water! If you do, the engine can start detonating.

I've been running a 9 psi turbo with water injection for the last 15 months and have never had a problem with detonation. If you plan to run without an intercooler/aftercooler, then I would definitely recommend it. If you haven't found this forum yet, then check it out. Pretty much everything you need to know is here: http://www.waterinjection.info/phpBB2/

fperra : What kit did you go with or did you go with a custom kit? Are you running a .7mm nozzle? I'm planning on running a DIY kit and plan on having the WI activate at 4psi of boost.

Are you running straight distilled water or with a 50/50 mix? I've heard taht you can just run blue windshield washer which is a 50/50 mix. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance!

I'm using the Aquamist 2d system with the accumulator. I switch it on at 3 psi of boost. I only use distilled water except in the winter when I mix about 40% methanol. I'm using two .9 mm jets, but thats only because the 2d system injects water in proportion to the injector pulses. With 600 cc injectors, the duty cycle is not that high, hence, the need for larger jets. Sounds like you will be fine with your planned setup.
