Good link 606 The "oil journals" have a huge amount of info. Mind-numbing. Honda engineers get paid the big bucks to figure this sh!t out, though. I think Hiroshima may be on to something. I think I recall Road Rage recommending 5,000 mile intervals for the tranny. Fresh fluid=

i changed my factory fill that had 14,119 miles out last night and put some new GMSFM in. the car shifts extremely smooth. I agree with the above, that new fluid will feel better. I just hope the GMSFM will feel better longer.

Ok.
I changed out the diff fluid with Mobil 1 75-90, and the trans with GM SynchroMesh Friction Modified...
Thanks for the Pep Boys pump idea. I only got a little bit of stinky fluid on my shirt... my kid thinks I smell like a cat box. I can live with that... I think.
"RoadRage"... my diff fluid was BLACK!!! The drain plug magnet had a bunch of sludge on it. I didn't see any shavings large enough to mention...but what is worth mentioning is the blackness and the sludge!
I have an '04 like you do. Should I read anything into the sludgeness?
My plan is to let the Mobil 1 work for about a thousand miles, then pump in the LE stuff before I go to Vegas, (a 5-hour trip).
Word?

It's late here, so I haven't driven the car with the new GMSMFM stuff yet. But from what I've read... it's the stuff.
I'll let you all know.
I figure three more track events before the end of this Spring season. I'll keep you all informed.

BTW, I am at 12k miles.
The trans was changed at 10k with HG MTF. The diff fluid was just now changed... and man it was black! For this change, I went with GMSMFM for the tranny because I feel "notchiness" no matter what style shifting I try.
I do HPDEs and my stook is my daily driver as well. Stop-n-go every square mile.
...That's the way the Phoenix valley is layed out... by the square mile. Sure hope that the GMSMFM is the "cat's meow".
But, should this driver be concerned about the blackness and sludge-apparent of the diff? And... how does one clean out the sludge from the diff?

Thanks,
CB

Well...
I couldn't wait...
My first drive around the 'hood is promising. The transmission shifted like buttah. I'm pleased.
I'll let you all know how it goes after a HPDE in a couple of weeks.

Just to bring an old thread back from the dead, I'm switching out of GM synchromesh friction modified back to Honda MTF someone in the next few weeks. The GM stuff felt great for the first few thousand miles. Butter smooth. But after 5k miles, my cold grind has gotten really bad and things overall just aren't that nice.

I had a honda mechanic test drive my car this morning and he said I should go back to using Honda's MTF...part of the reason was because if he found anything wrong with my transmission, he wouldn't be able to blame bad fluid.

Did you get the new, improved MTF (with white cap on bottle)?

That "SpecialtyFormulations" MTL-P 75W-85 works very well in my MY00 / 125700km gearbox.
Nice color too

'nother vote for Specialty Formulations MTL-P (75W85). I have about 10k on the clock for the fluid in a '03 with 50,000 miles on the odometer.

Holds up well in autocrosses and was good during my trip to Tail of the Dragon.
