what is 'grinding' sound? do i have it?
ok so some of u know that this is my first manual car and i've actually been reading this forum for 5 years now and still don't understand this 'grind'. is this the sound that when you are in gear and slow down you hear this sound (like a grinding sound) coming from the rear of the car?? if so i think i might have a little of it... i only have 2000 KM on my car!!! and i've really been easy on the car, like i've been starting (as in moving the car from a stop) from 1500 to 2000 (or lower) revs (is that to high?), and have been rev matching (blipping the throttle so its really smooth coming down the gears - not sure if its called rev matching). I also rarely drive fast and enter vtec, i only do it about once a week if that. if my car is grinding is there a fix for this or am i actually screwed??

YEAHH ... like when it first starts up and i try to pull it into second there's like this grind noise and is hard to put it into that gear. if you do it slower however it kind of 'wiggles' in. also when i'm slowing down coming down from like 4000 rpm there's sometimes a buzz that comes out from the middle-back of the car.

You should have had me go for a drive with you when we had our meet. I'm pretty sure it's just the normal drivetrain noises associated with an S2000. You've got a tranny right under you that whirrs and a rear diff that makes some noises too, not to mention tire noises, etc. The clutch springs also vibrate and can make a buzzing noise. There is very little sound deadening on this car, so you hear everything. Don't worry about it or you'll just lesson the enjoyment of the car.
A "grind" is unmistakable. Take a saw blade and run a file down the teeth. That's a grind and that's what a gear grind sounds like. You are new to a manual car. There will be lots of things that you've never heard before or felt before. If in doubt, get one of us to go for a short drive in your car. I'm sure we'll tell you that nothing is wrong.
For reference, I find myself revving up to 2500 to do a normal take off.
