So what weight oil is recommended 5W or 10 W? Are there specific conditions such as going to the track and daily driving where a certain weight is more desirable?

The truth is they run at nearly full throttle for most of the race, which is about 6,000 RPMs higher then our engines. Those engines are rebuilt on a regular schedule. And the failure rates of those engines actually decreased since the introduction/use of synthetics. In the performance world, if want to compete, you run synthetic lubricants.

Regular oil doesn't break down. The necessity for change is simply to remove dirt in suspension. In some applications, oil has been cleaned and reused.

All additives to stabilize viscosity and cleaners are synthetic. Thus any multi viscosity is actually partially synthetic.

Oil molecules can shear under extreme load and thus reduce its protection. The biggest problem though with standard oil is that it will burn. This is why all jet aircraft run pure synthetic.

Synthetic has a higher temperature ability and also has a greater lubricity. (I'm not sure I remember how to spell this???)

In a nut shell.

Regular oil is fine for the applications we are talking about. Synthetic may improve engine life by a small margin, but frequency of oil change is most important hear.

I am personally going to go synthetic for the increased lubricity. I have tested in many applications (aircraft engines) and seen reduction in fuel consumption. (about 5%) This means less drag = better performance. While no one will ever feel this, you anal retentive types should like the comfort of knowing you are running synthetic. No

WELL I USED CASTROL GTX IN MY CARS its been very good but I changed to REDLINE synthetic oil car runs smoother feels more responsive..... Both oils contain moly and I hear Mobil 1 burns in alot of different cars and trucks including the S2000...and mobil 1 dose not contain moly....but in all truth I think if you mantain your car properly for regular street driving your fine....But if you go racing and dragging and other fun abusive things go synthetic..
REDLINE 10w30 all the way.............
