Will this make a noise while driving and if so, how do I fix it?

Default Will this make a noise while driving and if so, how do I fix it?

Since I picked up my '06 a few weeks ago there has been a rattle coming from the rear passenger side when going over bumps or uneven ground.

Thought it might be droplinks, so I lifted the car up, took a wheel off to have a prod around.

Nothing seemed out of place except a cable grommet which I popped back in. I was giving everything a tug to see if I could replicate the noise when I tug the drive shaft and there seems to be a little axial play which results in a knocking noise.

Question: is this play normal when the car is on stands?
If so, what is the issue?

Ensure your spare tire is tightly secured. The retention bracket works loose over time causing rattling in the passenger rear especially while going over bumps. Hopefully this is your source of the noise

yeah tools in the trunk should be secure, check the tools and spare tire etc. If the previous owner messed with the suspension the tops of the shocks could be loose, check the shock nuts in the trunk to make sure they are torqued down.

Thanks! This is the answer I was looking for.

I guess I’ll keep digging then! I’ll have a look at the spare also
