Dean,
I looked on several on-line Honda parts sites and for the complete kit for the CMC the cheapest was 231.72. At least three places quoted this figure. There are about a dozen parts to buy, the most expensive single part was about 80 bucks. If/when I replace it, all the parts will be changed out. Could you be looking a the price of one single part?
I agree with you though, the price I was quoted is insane. I will not let them get near my car.

I don't know what it is you're looking at, but I bought a complete, fully assembled CMC for $65. I paid another $60 (if memory serves) for the slave cylinder. Other than brake fluid, there are no other parts required.
Majestic Honda's online parts catalog shows the CMC part number to be, 46920-S2A-003, and MH's price is $82.02. It's listed as being for 04+ model years, but the CMCs are interchangeable with the earlier versions.

Isn't there some sort of a delay device associated with the '04s and later?

Yes, in the slave cylinder, not the CMC. The CMCs for the AP1 and AP2 are the same.

This source has the CMC for under $85. $400 to install!

No, all the clutch delay valve does is save a bit of wear and tear on the drive train. Its presence won't be noticeable under normal driving conditions. In any event, Dean has an AP1 which doesn't have a CDV.
I'm willing to bet that Dean's problem is the same as mine - a leaky CMC. He may be able to cure the problem simply by cleaning out the CMC and flushing the system. It didn't work for me, so I replaced mine.

And I found my invoice. I was off by a few bucks for the CMC:
Items Ordered:
Item: clutch, hydraulic system, master cylinder S2000
Price: $80.14
Tax: $4.81
Qty: 1
Total: $84.95

Item: clutch, hydraulic system, slave cylinder S2000
Price: $60.26
Tax: $3.62
Qty: 1
Total: $63.88

-----------------------------
Items Total: $148.83

You know, Dean is absolutely correct. The CMC is less than $100.00. I think what may have happened at your dealer and this is what happened with me in my second reply. We looked at the Brake Master Cylinder, which is about $300.00. The clutch MC is "dirt cheap" and is far less involved to change than the brake MC, but even then, it's still only an hour or 2 labour. The CMC is an hour tops by a professional.
For this kind of money there is no need to rebuild anything. Do the fluid flush, change the tranny fluid. These should cost more than an hour labor plus 30 bucks of fluid and you should be good to go. If a new part is still needed, buy the CMC and have a local mechanic do the swap.
I was originally thinking that my CMC was about $150.00 many years back (Canadian Honda parts used to be about double what they cost in the USA). I was actually shocked to see how much the cost has risen. Stupid me, I was looking at the wrong cylinder.

Dean, the first place I looked for parts was Majestic Honda (hondaautomotiveparts.com)so I just went back and put in the info for my S. There are 20 parts they list for the CMC from 82.02 down to 28 cents with a total of 226.70. Maybe they used parts from your old one, like a cap which isn't going to wear out. I see the 82.02 and the slave cylinder for 58.38 that you referred to. We're talking the same this then, I just added all 20 parts up for my total.
I'll probably wind up ordering from them, then find a garage that will do the work. I refuse to go beyond my level of comfort working on cars, and this qualifies.
Bill I'll give you a case of Cabernet if you want to fly out and flush and bleed my system.
Same offer to you XViper!

I will try the flush and tranny fluid change before I do anything else.

Yep, you need the stuff in illustration #008, which is the complete CMC. I would also order a new seal, part number46928-SF1-000, and is shown as illustration #009. This gasket fits between the CMC and the firewall. It costs $3.59, and it's worth having in case your old one tears when the old CMC is removed.
