^^ I sympathize. I have done some of that kind of work on my car, too. With the supercharger (without another person up top), I was constantly crawling under, then out, then under. ...,
Much of the Kraftwerks kit goes underneath. I have changed the cat twice and swapped the exhaust from OEM to 3" single at least a dozen times. Installing a removable Chase hitch, etc., also involves jacking, securing, and then crawling. I think ordering the lift is the most satisfying thing I have done in a good while.

It will make general maintenance and also prepping the car for the track -- swapping brake rotors and pads, exhaust, etc. much much easier on an old guy who is not getting any younger.
We have at least four members in our MGA club that have them and three in another club. You need a two story height garage for the clearance. Having spent the past two days under the car I would love to have one; getting up and down is an issue with my hip replacement but I can't let that stop me. If one has the space and their ear to ground they can get some deals. One friend got one for $400 from a shop that was shutting. I've had at least two deals under $1,000 if I had the room. Some other friends did a bulk buy and as I recall paid about $1,500 each for new ones.

Dave, do you know the viscosity of Honda MTF?
Bill, Honda says that in an emergency, you can use a 10W30 motor oil, so I'm guessing that it's going to be in that vicinity. Pouring it out and feeling it and seeing how is pours, it would appear this is very close.
I used Schaeffer's 10W-30 synthetic in my tranny for about 3 years before switching to Amsoil MTF. Lasted longer and performed better than anything else I'd tried before.

I like GM Synchromesh transmission fluid friction modified. The new containers do not say friction modified. The former product, labeled friction modified, can be ordered online from several sources. Tranny shifts are silky smooth.

Do you like the Amsoil MTF? I've had it in my transmission for about six months now and I don't like it at all. I'm probably going to go back to Honda MTF as soon as it gets a little warmer.

Yes I do. I'm thinking after all these years that these trannys are just finicky beasts and no one seems to like what another likes. It may be climate and temperature related.

What don't you like about the Amsoil?

I can't crawl under my car anymore, either. At least that's what I'm telling everyone.

One of my local S2KI buddies comes to the house and does it for me while I watch. He gets dinner, some cash, and the pleasure of my company. And I get my car fixed without having to get my hands dirty (unless I fall down) and I don't have to spend big bucks on a lift.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but since I put Amsoil MTF in the transmission it feels a bit notchy and not quite as sharp and smooth as it used to be. I'm disappointed because I had great expectations for it. I like the oil a lot.

As soon as it gets a little warmer I'm going to change it.

Dave,
your links are excellent. It almost makes me want to try it myself. I think I could handle flushing and bleeding the system. However, I looked through receipts last night and found that the transmission fluid has not been replaced in 50,000 miles, (I know, I know, serves me right) so I am going to take the S in and have the CMC flushed, and the tranny oil changed at the same time.

This whole thread has been very informative. Thanks to everybody.

Why not a two post lift? They are much more versatile for working on the car.
