We do own one and quite happy with it so far. I like how it can keep up with our pig-dog chow. He really sheds a lot which I believe is one of the main reasons why the wife demanded for a roomba. ALthough I notice it's a bit noisy? We have to let it run while we're away. We can't watch the TV while it's running. Vacuuming wise, it's good.

a neighbor of ours had a robot lawn mower and it was terrible. I don’t know the brand but they no longer use it.

We had a roomba, if fact we have worn out two of them. ( First one in 2003) I think they are too expensive for the length of time they last. The very expensive replacement batteries I expect have come down in price since I gave up on ours but the having to take it apart and clean out all the dirt that gets jammed in it was tedious. One still needs a regular vacuum cleaner. When they are working it was really nice not to have to get under the bed for the dust bunnies.

So we've had the Roomba for three months now and like it a lot. It isn't for every home but our house isn't that big and is a single level ranch with mostly hardwood floors. We run the Roomba a couple times a week and it does a nice job of picking up tracked in sand and dirt, dust, and cat hair. The bedrooms are carpeted and it does well there, too. Once a week do have to take a minute or two while the Roomba is doing its thing to move a few things around so it can get everywhere. Our cat was a little freaked out by it at first but now she loves to sit up somewhere and watch it.

I've already ordered and received some replacement parts (brushes, rollers, filters, etc.). It seems there is a thriving market in such off-brand maintenance parts with prices a fraction of what Roomba charges. The quality of the parts I bought look to be every bit as good as that of the original parts. I guess the final proof will be provided when I put those "non-oem" parts into use.

By the way, thanks to everyone who posted in this topic. It has been very informative.

We don't need to order any OEM or other parts for our broom.
