OMG, I didn't know Peeay was so reasonable! Must be the 'red' legislature

$35/year for each of our 3 vehicles.....extra for commercial vehicles etc.

My classic S2QQO vanity plate costs $35....one-time fee.

Annual registration renewal can be done online in about 2 minutes.....very efficient (most other services can also be done online.....even checking your driving record....for a fee).

Must have auto insurance in Peeay to renew the registration. Many cars in urban areas do not have insurance or registration.

There is no personal property tax in PA, but 6% sales tax @ purchase.

Vehicles must be 'inspected' at authorized garages every year, with an additional 'emissions inspection' in urban areas like Philly/ Pittsbgh. These fees can amount to almost $100/ vehicle

We have to get a vehicle smog checked every two years, after it's 3 or 4 years old, I forget how old. Like now, I can't register my van until I take it to a Smog Inspection Station. They hook it up, rev it too two specified settings, and check different emmisions. It costs about $35. If it passes, great, now you get to pay the registration fees and mail them in. If not, you have to get the vehicle worked on until it does. Oh, and you must include proof of insurance too. One cannot remove the catalytic converter or you're in BIG trouble just having it looked at, before they even start the test.

In California in 2005 to register a 2002 S2000, 2003 Insight, and 2003 Explorer Sport Trac is cost us $1120 for ONE year. Three months later we moved to Idaho. It cost us $402 to register all three cars for TWO years.

P.S. Our car insurance went from $2,000 a year to $1,000.

Got my van smog checked and it passed. Phew. It has 126,441 miles on it. Cost me $60 to get it smogged at a Smog Check Only station. When you don't get red flagged for the Check Only station it's about $38.

I would also have to go pull the docs from the car to state specifics ... but in AL, the lic fee is around $25 with a couple of other Co fees ... but then there's the personal prop tax ... my '06 S is the first new car I've owned since 1980 ... that one my ex totalled the month it was going to be paid off ... ... so I'm not looking forward to the tax bill in Jan ... but it will drop off rapidly over the next couple of years. Given the string of "pre-loved" cars I've driven during the past 25 years, I won't truly consider the S "broken-in" till it has 100K on the odo.
