Well, I'm getting to love Linux... But since Linux is mostly being deployed on Intel-based machines, I guess that doesn't make me a Mac lover. Let's just say I'm a Mac "appreciater," Mikey. Does that count?

[QUOTE=Chazmo,Dec 11 2004, 11:43 AM] If you only want a few of these wordperfect files to use the S icon, then what you want to do is define a new extension (say "swp") and rename your files to that extension.
I think it's an all or nothing thing for a given file type (like .wpd), Dave. If you change the icon for .wpd, it'll show up for all .wpd files. If you don't mind changing the extension for the S-related files to something like .wps, you can basically define what .wps means (a wordperfect file with a custom icon, in your case).
I'm not sure what you mean about not sharing the files, Dave. What you're doing really only affects your own system. That said, if you mail someone a ".wps" file, their system probably won't know it's a wordperfect document. Is that what you meant?

I do Not wish to change all the the .wpd files.
For those that I do (my S2000 files) I define a new extension, say .wps with a new button, right?
And WordPerfect will still recognize .wps on my computer for those select files, right?
If I do that, can I convert them back to .wpd by doing a "save as" if for some reason I wanted to share them with another person who has WordPerfect?
And finally, how do I go about getting a new button?

That's right, Dave. You're defining a new file "type" (.wps) which is exactly the same as the .wpd type except that it uses a different icon. That's all.
Wordperfect will definitely recognize those .wps files *if* you define the wpd type to start wordperfect on .wps files. That's what defining the new .wps type is all about.
Right, if you wanted someone else to see them, you'd rename them to .wps.
Not sure what you mean about a new button though, Dave. I'm just describing a way that you'll see the S icon for files that are named <something>.wps, and will open up wordperfect when you click on them.

By button, I'm talking about the icon or image..... I used the term button because you used it earlier and I thought we were talking about the same thing. For example, QuickTime uses a fancy Q, or Internet Explorer a fancy E, or Outlook Express an enevlope with arrows around it. In that same vein WordPerfect uses a pen tip on a square. What I was driving at from the start was to replace the pen tip with another symbol.... any symbol--- just so my S2000 files stood out when I looked down a list of files within a folders. At the same time I wanted to retain the pen tip to identify other WordPerfect files that might be in the same folder but had nothing to do with an S2000. Hope that's clear.
First off, I have no idea where or how to find an alternate symbol of anything unique or S2000 related. Second I have no idea how then to make it appear in the options available to tag with each .wps file I create.
Thanks for being patient Charlie, as you can see this pc stuff is always a struggle for someone like me with no background or training in it. It sounds like it may be over my head to try it.
