Computer (E-Mail) Help Please!
From the looks of the above and the site that Gene referred us to, they must be having trouble with a LOT of their servers. People were weighing in from all over. You may be on the only one that works. Just think, soon there will be long lines of people wandering, seemingly randomly, but all towards Flintstone. Not knowing why, but being drawn by something invisible. (Or are those tubes that make up the internet visible? Guess I need to call Alaska and ask Ted Stevens. Back to the story.) People will be lined up outside your house in the thousands. All they want is a few minutes of time on your computer. Mister, can you spare a minute for an e-mail check? <fade to black>

Yeah, I saw that. How do you figure we are ignoring it, though? It doesn't explain what the Comcast issue is, just that it's happening to other people as well as Martha.
I think this is a national problem.
quoting a funny post from the comcast support forum.

and yeah talking to the local support folks is like talking to your dog except the dog doesn't offer stupid things to keep you busy.

It has been particularly bad over the last few days. The annoying thing is that I sit here and watch my client check email and I see it check my 5 comcast accounts (all with the same settings being checked by the same client) and see some transactions clear and others do not.... if that does not scream server-side errors, then I'll go and slap myself silly with a monkey.

Martha, just for sh_ts and giggles go back to the command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and tell me what DNS server addresses are reported. We may be able to debug this for Comcast and become famous (or infamous).

Raymo,
what do you use for your email application and what frequency interval do you check it at?

)For Comcast I've always slogged through their interface until today - but I'm beginning to see some potential advantages to using Outlook or Outlook Express now. Provided, of course, they can be made reliable.
You guys are still mucking about with this problem?
Good luck, raymo...and martha. Hopefully comcast will figure it out tonight and tomorrow your email issues will just be a bad memory.
And look at all the interesting posts it caused. We vintage are nothing if not helpful. (Or at least we try to be.

it's always good information to know if you are fighting something unique to your system or a systemic ISP issue.
I'm intrigued now and I have to see how this Magilla ends.

....I have had very good experience with Comcast over the last 18 years. Much less tha one outage per year. If I call it gets answered by someone in the next town. Technical support has been good and they all speak English.

Add another one to the Comcast Camp. I had problems a few years ago, but it's been pretty good in the last year or two
A couple neighbors have switched to VZ FIOS in the past months, but I haven't heard much positive comment about their TriplePlay and various other
I have even had good luck with customer service lately.....getting through quickly and getting a helpfuL rep on the line. He was very patient and led me through the fix for a strange POP3 and/or SMTP problem.
I routinely use Outlook Express that came with my HP desktop. When traveling, I have been using the Comcast webmail. It's pretty simplistic in features, but I'm really glad to be able to access my email so easily from Montana, Nova Scotia, Europe, whatever.....
