Let me begin by saying that I have had very good experience with Comcast over the last 18 years. Much less tha one outage per year. If I call it gets answered by someone in the next town. Technical support has been good and they all speak English.
gee whillakers, you make me want to move.

my service has not been all that good.
I typically would have to reset my cable modem two or three times a week.
it was marginal especially on HD until I put in the phone and second DVR.
The signal strength then fell below marginal and they had to rebalance the line.
Since then it has been great.

but the people aspect of their support is just poor. it takes forever to get somebody on the phone and then they are typically reading of a fixed debug sheet.
have you rebooted your computer?
have you reset your modem?

eventually you can talk with a person with a brain but it takes forever.
it would almost be worth a few bucks a month to go directly to an escalated service.

although it's not quite this level

That is one of the issues that they battle with. Getting a signal hot enough to get enough to every drop. HD is really an issue, at least around here. If you have problems going forward, demand an inline amp in the house. The new ones are bidirectional so VOD will pass without an issue.

I just searched the DSLReports forum, and it seems that this is a current problem with Comcast:

Seems like you guys are missing (or ignoring) my last post: This is a Comcast issue.

Yeah, I saw that. How do you figure we are ignoring it, though? It doesn't explain what the Comcast issue is, just that it's happening to other people as well as Martha.

And oh yeah, what are the odds that customer "service" rep that chewed out Martha will call her back and say, "I'm sorry, there really was an issue on our end"? It's amazing how many more customers you could retain if you did that.

Mike, I sincerely doubt that they'll even be informed.
One day a while back before I left them, my DVR failed. So I packed it up and took it to my local office. They had no replacements. But they offered me one thast just came back from someone else. I took it home and hooked it up, and lo and behold, the exact same problem. The issue was that Comcast was pushing a whole new rev. of software, and they didn't tell their phone support or local offices. So everyone that had a DVR that day was just left hanging.

I'm amazed.
I typed in explicit messages on what I am seeing and users are coming out of the woodwork saying yup they have the same problem.
And this is on a comcast support chat room which I stumbled over.
god knows how many people out there a going ballistic.

Thanks everyone. I guess misery really does love company -- at least I'm glad it's not just us because Dean even offered to speak to the nice lady at Comcast! Trust me, NO service person EVER wants to have to speak with Dean. I think the reason he married me was so that he would never have to make a service call again, thereby keeping his heart from exploding for a bit longer.

Raymo, when I follow your commands, I get cns.bonitasprngs.fl.naples.comcast.net and an IP. I think it would be worth a drive to Naples to "visit" with these fine people.

Aha. That's a different DNS server than the one I get from Atlanta. It's probably either DNS or a problem with routing from your area. I'd fix it if I could.
