Discussion on Television Programs
I agree with you, MsP. I saw several commercials featuring Joanna Gaines and frankly I've had enough of the Gaines family and have absolutely zero interest in seeing them again. I may take a peek at the channel on the free trial to see if anything looks particularly good and IF AND ONLY IF the programs are commercial free. I totally refuse to pay for a channel that bombards me with 15 commercials every 5 minutes.
Same boat for us. Cindy is an HGTV hound, and I do enjoy Discovery. The shift by the networks to move to their streaming services and leave the reruns etc.. for their cable customers is frustrating. I'm surely not interested in the $5 or $10 more/month for this, and $10 for that, etc... on top of the fees I'm paying for the "now basic" programming on their cable feeds.
We're going to have to have a significant discussion at some point on what we want, where we watch, etc..
It's not the money, but rather the "bending over of the customer" here. The move to the services would let us get rid of some boxes, and alter our cable package. I don't see us scrapping it. Unfortunately, for us, with most channels and four boxes (yea, I know we're just 2 people)... we get some things included and it was cheaper than a lesser package and paying for extra boxes. A Chromecast or FireStick or some Smart TVs where we don't have them solves this.
As for shows - don't watch a lot of network stuff anymore.
Cindy loved Bridgerton on Netflix - I had to stop at 4 episodes.
We both watched The Queen's Gambit.
I watch Brittania and The Expanse on Amazon Prime.

For those that like the car-related shows I have been enjoying the show on Motor Trend T.V. called Junkyard Empire. It's about a family run junkyard and auto repair/sales shop. Not a lot of drama and get a kick out of the father Bobby.
I have to agree with you and MsP regarding so many series and movies moving to streaming services. With what we pay Comcast each month for cable and Internet "service" they should be providing more, not fewer options. They love to promote that as an Xfinity Premium customer we get the new NBC Peacock streaming for free. Great, if you want to watch primarily re-runs of lame sitcoms from decades ago. It seems just when we find a series we like, it either gets cancelled or is moving to a streaming service. Do I sound old an grumpy enough yet?
I'm not happy about it either as we also pay a lot to Comcast every month.
I'm piggy backing off my daughter's membership in Discovery + . Looked at what's available yesterday and saw nothing of any real interest. I'll have to explore a little more. Meanwhile, wanted to thank Gene (I think) for recommending All Creatures Great and Small. We watched a couple of episodes on Masterpiece yesterday and really enjoyed it.
I like Line of Duty on Prime. Irish police series. The first season was ok, second season better, third season even better.
CBS came out with two new series this month and I've watched two shows of each. I like Clarice. Tough FBI lady. I did not like The Equalizer. Ex-CIA lady but way too much 'I'm bad' unless you like Marvel characters.

Watching Restoration Garage tonight. One of the cars they are working on is a 66 honda s600 coupe really neat car. They think it has a bad starter and are trying to locate exactly were the starter is.
