Do You Act Or React

When I was a tyke, 10 was the magic number. 10 ways to riches. 10 ways to a better life. Starting with Covey's book, I started to notice that 7 has become the magic number.
I'm not kidding, I can't tell you the number of times I've seen the number 7 come up for this sort of thing. I suppose we all got too busy to deal with 10 anymore.
Only thing that hasn't changed from 10 is the number of work hours they try to squeeze out of me every day.

Good question Chaz. I dunno. I've noticed as I've gotten older that things seem to become more black and white. It seems easier to distinguish between right and wrong. Is that just from age and wisdom and experience? Or am I getting old mans disease. LOL. If I find myself yelling out "What! $2.95 for a Coke...that's highway robbery!" at a restaurant then I'll have my answer.

I used to react, sometimes without thinking. I had (have) a dangerously quick temper, but over the years, with much patience from my wife, I have learned to pretty much control it. 1999 taught me patience, and taught me to take that proverbial deep breath. That year my oldest daughter got married, my father-in-law died suddenly 2 weeks later, and that fall I was diagnosed with colon cancer.
Talk about a dose of wake-up!!!
If I hadn't learned to control the temper, I would have exploded. It didn't help that I'm hypertensive. I've learned to just keep calm and not let anything rile me up. Nowadays about the only person that can make me see red is my oldest daughter; she and I love each other to death, but we can reeeally get each other to see red instantaneously.
How am I able to keep calm? I don't have an answer for that, it's not really a concious process. I just retreat inwardly when a button is pushed, and sorta "turn myself off", if that makes sense. That, plus trying to see the cup as half full, has helped me to survive the last few years.

My previous statement was going to refer to a comment that could be preceived as political. So I retracted it.
As far as soft drink prices at restaurants. I will post this. Fountain prices of soft drinks have proven to be the first leading economic indicator over the last score or so. When the economy gets tight people stop ordering soft drinks at fast food chains and restaurants.
In regards to restaurants getting away with charging $2.95 for a soft drink I guess that means that the economy is not as bad as some Presidential Candidates would leave one to believe it is.
As for me. I also think the price of soft drinks is outrageous and just order water with lemon.
