Do You Remember?
I remember having only one television and one telephone in the house and a quarter buying a whole lot of candy and popcorn at the movie. [/QUOTE]
I remember one telephone too. As a matter of fact, we had a telephone table in the foyer. The telephone sat on the top and the phone books sat on the lower tier. The phone was one of those bakelite models with sharply defined lines. Our phone number was Hickory-4-3570.
We'd all gather around on Friday evenings during the winter for the long distance call to my grandmother in Florida. Long distance calling was a very big deal in the 1950s.

Can't you get arrested for that
OTOH, there would never be any arguements about 'which movie to see'....

I hate to date myself
Although, I am not sure how Rick would feel about that?
I don't remember 1955 since I was born in 1958 but I remember stoping at the corner store walking home from school with 10 cents. I could get two candies, like Good and Plenty or Hot Tamales, or one big one, like a Hershey's bar, for that.

Only my lil' bro could remember his phone number from the 50s. Amazing. I have a gossip bench/table from that period to this day. It's like a desk for left handers with a place for the phone book on the botton. Oh and yes, the phone numbers really did start with names back then, didn't they? Funny stuff.

Our phone number was WYMAN 4-1955.
Now how do I remember a phone number from over 30 years ago, and I can barely tell you what I had for dinner last night?

I know what you mean.
Our phone number was 798J and the years were late 40s to 50s. We had to pick up the reciever and wait for the operator to come on to give her the name of the town and number and name. For information, my dad was calling his family in Isle Of Palms SC. He had to give them the name and tell her that the place is near Charleston. That of course before area codes so giving the number was no help.
