I tell ya...the youngsters in my local s2k "crew" (look...I'm using their lingo) text me all the fricken time. Drives me nuts. Why not just call! It takes so long to tap out a text response. And it took me forever to figure out how to backspace to erase a mistake.

My son no longer answers his cell phone it goes to his voice mail. But if I send him a text I get an immediate response. Go figure......

BTW my cell has a keyboard, that helps.

I thought you had to turn your phone off during class............ that shows how behind the times I am! Other than a family emergency, I can't imagine what couldn't wait until class was over. I guess I'm just hopelessly old-fashioned -- I'd prefer to hear someone's voice than read a bunch of garble on a tiny screen. I get the impression from friends that the texting business has replaced the old note-passing in high school & jr. high.

I guess, if for some reason, you don't want your phone to ring, (as Patty mentioned) a text message would work well. I'm with negcamber as far as how long it took me to reply to the messages....I'm just not with it, I guess.

I guess they (text messages) can also be useful it it's too late to call someone and you just want to pass along a brief message, as was the case with the two I received this weekend from my

I don't expect to add any texting plan to my cell phone plan anytime soon.

He puts it on vibrate for text messages, maybe that is why he likes it so much, what do I know, I am only his dad.

Cell phone use is not allowed in my classes, period. Phones are to be turned off before entering the classroom or lab.

Same here. I didn't care for text messaging at first, but now find it a very convenient way to communicate with my son who is at college.

I've grown to like it. For $5.00 Verizon offers 250 text messages. Otherwise they're .15 each (whether you're sending or receiving).

You'd think a former hippie type of guy like Dean would be an "anything goes" kind of professor. I bet he makes them think that's the case, then BAM, they have to stay after school for some kind of infraction.
