Ethics
I've seen quite a few posts on S2KI that cause me concern. A few recent examples...
1. Young person asks for help from S2KI members in convincing parents to purchase S2000 for him. Parents are reluctant because young person wrecked last car in street race. He blames accident on elderly Florida drivers.
2. S2KI contributor gets ticket outside of home state of California. Another S2KI contributor recommends telling the judge he just moved to state in which he got ticket so the judge won't be unduly influenced by fact that defendant is from out of state.
3. S2KI contributor with modified S2000 has difficulty receiving services under extended warranty. Warranty states that modifications void warranty. Contributor apparently never read warranty and maligns Honda dealership and Honda USA for "shoddy" service. Other S2KI contributors nominate dealership for Black Ball list.
4. Driver admits to exceeding speed limit by a substantial margin and receives ticket for multiple violations. Driver extols his considerable driving skills and asks advice for mitigating resulting consequences.
5. S2KI contributors boast of street racing activities and describe driving experiences that could only be described as reckless. In same post, claim that police are harassing them by hanging around and monitoring activities.
6. Young contributor who cannot write two consecutive comprehendible sentences, can't spell, and uses no capitalization or punctuation, requests suggestions regarding how to spend several thousand dollars on modifications to his S2000.
6. S2KI contributors ask advice on how to circumvent smog inspection, how to cover up warranty-busting modifications or activities to obtain otherwise denied services, how to reduce insurance costs by claiming false residence, how to bypass OEM anti-theft equipment, etc., etc., etc.
I could go on and on. Do these kind of issues bother anyone else out there, or am I just an old fogey living under a rock?

You have just mentioned most of the reasons that I don't visit some of the forums very often and almost never post in them. If you dare to call someone on their inconsistencies then you are branded. It's too bad but a fact of life. Because I don't agree with some of the things which go on in some forums doesn't mean that I wish to see them shut down or censored. Hopefully the people who habituate them will mature somewhat or at least offer some ethical advice to the posters.

Well said, Jeff
Stealing a page from Rob's phrase book (he's not up yet....will be here soon), I'll remind everyone why the Vintage Forum is one of the most popular on this site:
Folks are respectful and engage in civil dialogue, without the need for flames.
[B]yes your are an old fogey living under a rock.
The worlds a big place. We all live in it. Sure, some kids are stupid, some can't spell or don't care. People do dumb things.
Get over it and enjoy life.
Sorry if I'm ranting but geriatric judgementalism is not a pit I want to fall into.
Nor do I wish it on any of my friends. It's a symptom of the sourness of old age.

The problems you list go hand and hand with the mood and system of our country at this time. I could rant here for a long time, but I won't.
However, I will say that I suspect that similar things took place in various other great civilizations in the past, shortly before they fell.

something like the decline of the Roman Empire...
in response to the question/thread title ... no you're not alone - it is this sentiment that is one of the reasons that attracted me to the 'vinatage' forum and its members...
thank you for being here.
I think other auto forums have elements of this unethical/immature posting - however it feels a bit more prevalent on s2ki - for reasons hard for me to verbalize the S attracts an edgier more 'out there' group of owners than say miata.net & from my experience a bit less civilized than those folks as well.
... and have nice day.

'm a poet an noitA lot of the issues mentioned aren't limited to these forums or this site. They are a general function of anonymous communications. It is quite easy for someone to be aggressive or nasty or dishonest or (fill in your favorite character trait here) when there is no fear of anyone knowing who they are. I think that part of the reason that this forum is so mellow, not including the advanced age and limited mobility of some of us, is that a lot of the members have met in person. That fact tends to moderate what could be some touchy subjects. jmo.
ps - It's is well documented that the Playstation was almost solely responsible for the fall of the Roman Empire.

You're now soothsayers of doom? That's another sign of ageing. Our world is going to collapse from kids being unable to spell or from racing in the street? Our society is going to end because someone wants out of a ticket or to get around an insurance or warranty policy? Bet that makes lawyers evil.
Societies have been passing laws against buggy and horse street racing long before there were cars.
You know I also find it interesting that people as they age set themselves up as judge and jury, and begin to claim the end of the world if everyone isn't comforming to their sense of justice. I think that's a normal occurance in human psyche. If my life is drawing to a close, then the rest of the world should too.
Good thing you've got salvation huh?
