I have heard that hummingbird feeders should be out of the sight line of the other feeder. It may help eliminate the battle for "turf." I have two feeders, but they are only across the yard from each other. If I put them elsewhere, I won't get to see the action from my window. I seem to have three or four hummers each year. There could be more, but the most I see at one time is three or four. They tend to get more aggressive in the month or so before they leave me.

^^ When my folks lived on a hill and had a hummingbird feeder on their back deck, it was very popular and often had numerous H-birds eating at the same time. We could hold it in our hands and they would still zoom in.

On another note, even though we now live "in the city" we have seen foxes in our back yard. Last night they woke me up running across the deck and I saw two of them using our fountain for water. I just found an egg shell on our deck and there are scratch marks all the way up our olive tree. They reaches the dove's nest and had a snack. Yes a fox can climb a tree. I have stood under a tree at our last home, outside town, with the fox up the tree over my head.

That's never happened here. After the rains of the weekend, the feeders needed attention. Dumped them all made sure they were relatively clean and refilled with seed. The thistle bags take a beating, so Rick re-stocked my supply for me. I do wash and re-use them, but they are not the sturdiest of products and often need replacing. One of the plastic clips broke on the seed catcher tray. I just tied the string up to the loop and adjusted the length of the other strings. I don't think I'll leave those out in the winter. I'm not so concerned about the mess on the ground in the winter or rodents. Speaking of rodents, I keep watching for evidence of tunneling near the deck and/or shed, and outside of one area, no issue. Fingers crossed.

I had never seen that, as I mentioned above, however, last night a chickadee was hanging on the hummingbird feeder. Not sure if he/she was successful in getting a drink.

Finally found a way to keep the squirrels off my suet feeder!

Its far enough away from the bush, they can't jump to it!

I've watched them go from branch to branch, trying, and its been a week since I hung it, and no squirrels to date have been on it!

Twine is about 20' long, coming off a branch.

I actually saw a humming bird in my yard yesterday feeding upon our flowers. It's gone now...it was the first that I've seen for the last 12 years. I must be in part of its confusing migratory path. No camera was at the ready

They are at our flowers ever day . . . and then the deer come every night to the wife's salad bar. Makes it tougher for the hummers.

I had a feeling that this would be the morning our noisy family would be saying goodbye. I wish I knew how many were in there? They say three or four is not uncommon. In any case, I grabbed the camera to take a shot of a baby wren.

Where's mom?

Here is mom.
