Sue, you should try fried okra if you want to learn to like it! A true Southern treat.
Gene, I have had okra tempura, is that what would be like fried okra?

I didn't make the okra tempura myself, but I actually did like it. I guess I like it if I can get past the usual slimy texture.
You should ask,Scoot, about, fried okra,He is the expert.

Cranberry walnut bread is in the machine. Glad I got inspired and retrieved it from the closet. Bread from the machine is a whole lot cheaper than bread at the store. And fresh with no preservatives.

As a rule I stay away from white potatoes too. However, yesterday my physician recommended I eat more baked potatoes to help with some deficiencies noted in my blood work. I was surprised. She also told me to add sunflower seeds, spinach, peanuts and brussel sprouts. I need more folate and magnesium. I'm not at a danger point yet but these recommendations should ward that off.

I got a small container of citrus quinoa salad at Fresh Market's deli yesterday. OMG -- YUM. I'll be going back today (I hope) for more. So good! It had almonds, orange bits, cranberries and I think cucumber bits as well. Very, very good.

^ Thanks, Deb! Just got back from buying the okra and the Andouille sausage, the only ingredients not in our pantry.
Can't wait to try it!
Decided to play chef with this dish. I had never made a roux before, and will probably never again, as I set off the fire alarm when I cooked it a little too much. Bea showed me the proper way, and the gumbo is now happily simmering in the crock-pot.

The gumbo was DELICIOUS! I'll be making it again, but next time, I won't overcook the roux. Thanks for the recipe, Deb.

^^ I probably will not be losing any weight after last night's dinner. We had filet mignon shiskabob with mushrooms, red peppers and red onion. It was quite delish along with a caesar salad. Bypassed dessert, but +1 had a small piece of truffle cake. We'd grown weary of fish and chicken and it was a nice departure from the norm.

Went up the street to a popular Asian place last night to watch the Caps hockey game and have dinner. We had the chicken satay, then the +1 had Vietnamese grilled pork and I had a couple of pork sticky buns. For dessert, we had a fried banana dish with honey and coconut. Everything was delish!! And I had a mangotini - also delish.
