garage door openers : time to sound vintage
when did garage door openers get so complicated?
My thirty year old garage door opener has developed schizophrenia and gets crazy now and then.
it will develop little fits on random up down motion. So it's looks like it time for a new one ( or two)
Most of my cars have homelink remotes, that's a good thing except apparently there is a break before and after 2012.
hmm 2003, 2009,2010, nope they won;t work now. need a bridge adapter.
Chamberlain has WIFI, Cool! well sort of. wifi app has a $10 a year subscription.... WTF??
who do they think they ae comcast?
oh and it only works on 2.4 ghz band with 20 mhz channel width... grr
good news is it has battery backup but wifi won't work if the power is out....
Oh and don't plug in an LED bulb the internal switcher s jam up the receivers.
LED are so F'ing cheap now, why isn't it an integral part of the unit?
The LED switcher supply and LEDs have to be cheaper than the relay logic and hardware for the light socket and the shield.
I suspect I can "fix" my old unit which looks pretty robust mechanically with a new controller card for ~$70.
hmmmm

Sounds complicated. Maybe it's a good thing we don't have a garage....just a car cover for the P car. Pretty easy to operate.

Both of our doors are programmed on the same pushbutton remote (seperate buttons). The only downside was that it has no motion detector to turn the light on so I modified it.........it does now!

Weird. I have a slightly older Chamberlain with MyQ and it works great via WiFi. I logged into the web portal to see if they are now demanding a $10/yr ransom, but no signs of that yet. I guess they changed things with the newer gateway with Homekit compatibility and such. I did have to purchase a bridge to get it working seamlessly on home-link in all my cars, but I'm OK with that given the resulting convenience.

The driver sunvisor contains the Homelink on my Fords. When one visor in my '07 Expedition got tired of staying up I replaced it and cut the Homelink unit out of the old visor. Velcroed it under the dash on the S2000 wired to the ignition side at the fuse box. Worked well in every house but the one I live in now ... Junkque yards probably have these cars and parts there ain't real expensive if you just want the visor.

I bit the bullet and jumped in with both feet.
we shall see how it works out.
