GE Profile Kitchen???
Ok Bill, here’s a more serious response with a couple points.
A professional in-home appliance repair tech’s advice:
Point 1: You will not get a more reliable machine by paying more for it. In fact, it's usually the opposite. Computers add hundreds of components to a machine. If one of those components fail, it's new computer time.
Point 2: The manufacturers intend for their machines to be replaced every ten years. Imagine a bell curve with the peak at ten years. Some machines will fail sooner, some later.
Point 3: Each manufacture has items that have historically proven to be better than the competition. When buying everything from one, keep that in mind.
We have a plain-jane GE gas range, no issues there. Our latest appliance is a Bosch dishwasher; no issues there so far. For a frig we bought a Kenmore (sold by Sear and made by LG). When we were looking at that time GE was not highly rated for frig. Finally our oldest appliances are an LG washer & LG dryer (13 years old). We had to replace the computer main board on the washer at 5 years; no issues so far after that.

We have a few GE appliances (some Profile some not). The ice maker in the frig makes enough noise to raise the dead. Parts to repair (on a two year old machine) is over $150 and I do the labor. One thing that hides the noise of the ice maker is the dishwasher. We never run it during the day as it will run use out of the area. The other noise that helps hide the ice maker noise is the turn table in the microwave. It constantly clicks and the cost of the parts nearly exceeds the cost of a new microwave.
Now just don't get me started on keeping the stainless clean

Oh why oh why can't I have my Kenmore appliances back!!
Upside to GE is that parts are easily obtainable.

Like others have said stainless is a pain in the but to keep clean, but if you like that look and are willing to spend the time cleaning it or have someone to clean it for you then why not. Personally my house is a mix of appliances and fixtures that range from a few years old to 20 plus years old and I have had more problems with the newer stuff. Not a fan of ice makers I have seen a lot of cases where they have leaked and done significant damage before people realised the line was leaking.
What did you mean in your post when you said tool price on sale?

Knock wood the refrigerator is fine, the dishwasher had some issues but since my guy misdiagnosed it, he paid for the first parts replaced as well as labor, I paid only for the second repair. The second repair was what I suggested for the first repair...Google told me so! Microwave is fine, stove was not replaced when we re-did the kitchen, but it's time now.Plain Jane appliances continue to work for me. Keeping food cold, or cooking food with gas doesn't require fancy buttons, options, in my world.
Both washer and dryer have had repairs. Life expectancy is no longer 20+ years for these items.
All of our KitchenAid stuff is black stainless. Piece of cake to clean. Our last GE refer was regular stainless and it was awful. We never got rid of the marks made by the clear plastic it came wrapped in.
We split the baby.
dishwasher and trash compactor are kitchenaide.
so far so good. although the dishwasher didn't like trying to eat plastic chopsticks.
Refrigerator is LG. I'm not sure I'd buy another. Lot's of internal plastic stuff that breaks.
Ovens: Bosch. combo microwave/ convection over.
with another full convection oven.
Only complaint with Bosch is the timer's ding isn't very loud.
Cooktop, induction,
simply Fantastic I love it every time we use.
Vent: Bosch counter popup. works really well. If I were building new I would go overhead though.

that's is what I have a G.E. harvest gold fridge with the faux woodgrain handles that I would say is from the late 80's maybe early 90's. I had a customer who asked me if I wanted it and that's how I ended up with it. My sister and my parents have both gone through 2 new refrigerators in the time I have had old harvest gold and it is still working great.
