Not a fan of ice makers I have seen a lot of cases where they have leaked and done significant damage before people realised the line was leaking.
What did you mean in your post when you said tool price on sale?
Our neighbors were on vacation and forgot to turn the water off. The ice maker sprung a leak and when they got home it was a mess. New carpet, hardwoods, tile. We always turn off the water if we are away.

We turn the water off too. We have a neighbor who has sensors in every room that has water, I know because they detected a link and they recommended the sensors to others. When our dishwasher flooded the kitchen it took no more than 5 minutes or so to cause the damage. If I was not home I can’t imagine what the damages would have been.

it is especially scary that there does not appear to be redundant safeguards on the dishwasher.

As you can see it's the luck of the draw when it comes to appliances.

My fantasy kitchen would have SubZero refrigeration and freezers with matching cabinet inserts on the fronts.
Same panel insert for dishwasher. it looks so slick.
A Viking or Five star 6 burner gas cooktop on the wall with big hood over it with stainless panel in between. A backwall faucet over the stove.
a 36" Bosch induction cooktop in the island with a sink next too it.

Lots of kitchen and laundry appliances appear to be private label all made by the same company with trim and label differences. Whirlpool makes some of these.

Matching kitchen appliances can provide the complete range from great to horrible in operation. My Whirlpool refrigerator works well enough but the Whirlpool dishwasher next to it is a POS as far as I'm concerned it's noisy and everything comes out wet. Loved my 20 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher; dishes came out clean and dry and I could sit on the floor next to it and talk on the phone it was so quiet. Just pulled the serviceable Whirlpool range and slid in a Samsung double oven model -- No, it doesn't match exactly but is close enough. I had two full size wall ovens at my last house. Dual oven is critical a few times a year.

As you know a Kitchenaid is a Whirlpool brand. We currently have a Kitchenaid refrigerator that we like and had one in our prior house. Our prior house also had a Kitchenaid Dishwasher that we also liked.

Bill, we have some commercial grade stainless steel kitchen appliances. They are very easy to clean, just with a damp cloth.

Pics.

Same here, Jim, only ours are 20 years old but we have 2 built-in wall ovens and a separate gas cook-top. I would heartedly reccomend Thermador. Worth the money, IMHO.
