OK, I registered the unit. I had not done so before.

They are supposed to email me notice of updates.

I looked at that 430 update. Do you download it to the computer, then use the USB cord to transfer it to the Nuvi? I have no idea on this......
You plug the usb cable into your computer and your unit. Garmin gives step by step instructions and its easy as pie. They'll send you e-mails when you need to do any updates or downloads and any of them are optional. A screen will open if you choose an update (or need one) and it will walk you through. Its a snap. I'm sure magellans and others probably do the same thing, but Garmin thinks everyone is blonde, so you'll have no problem.

Check what version map you have installed on your Nuvi. If you have one of the earlier models, you probably have v7 of the map set installed. The current version is v8.

I bought my Nuvi 350 about 10 days before the v8 map set came out, and when I called them and asked if I could get the update for free (hell, after all my referrals and given that this is already the third Garmin unit I bought, that did not seem unreasonable), they actually gave me a steep discount (less than $20 for the upgrade). So if you just missed the deadline for the free upgrade, make sure to call them and talk to them instead of just shelling out the full amount on their website.

Lainey, the Updater software will download and install any and all updates available for your device. That includes any free map updates that they give out.

Got the Garmin C330 for Christmas and I can't wait to take it on a drive. I've been using it around town just for the hell of it and it's pretty cool. I set the voice to British English and now refer to her as "Emma", as she reminds me of Emma Thompson .

I'm probably ok on updates for now since it's new, huh?

Should be. Register on line with the paper that came in the box for info. They can notify you if you need to upgrade.

I spoke with them this AM and they told me my first upgrade in 2007 most likely will be free.

She also said no need to upgrade every time. The upgrades usually cost $75.00 or so. She said that if it takes you "into a cornfield, instead of the on ramp, it's time to upgrade.

We ordered an extra mount and charger so as not to have to deal with remembering to put it in my car or the Honda. Prices on Amazon a bit cheaper. Also found a company that sells removable screen protectors for about $12.00. I know the screen on my digital camera is all scratched to heck, didn't want that to happen to my Nuvi.

I registered already . I love that kinda stuff. Makes me feel like I'm wanted .

And if I end up in a corn field, somebody's getting sued!
