I read a story in one of my car magazines recently that portable GPS units are now high on the list of thefts out of cars. They recommend putting it out of sight or in the trunk when leaving your car parked in a public place.
My StreetPilot C340 pops out from the windshield mount very easily. I'll either lock it away or take it with me. (You can buy a carrying case.)

Haven't hit the road too much yet with our GPS, but when we have, if we leave the vehicle, I remove it from the holder and drop it in my purse.

When traveling, we will now need to pack a separate bag for the GPS, camera, cell phone, two way radios and all the chargers that go with them.

I feel your pain.

You left out the laptop though.

I stick the camera in my purse, the gps goes into a small lunch-bag size insulated carrier along with all the chargers, cords, the extra outlet cord, etc. I do take the laptop, but +1 uses it as much as I do (probably because he's lurking to see what I'm saying here)

I bought a carrying case for my Garmin StreetPilot 2610 since I bring it backeast every time I come. It's nice but wasn't padded so I lined it with foam and I put it in my carry-on backpack.

Check out this place: GPS ONLINE

They've got the bluetooth Nuvi 660 for $709.99 (today's price). You may find a good buy. When I bought my StreetPilot, they had the lowest prices for the same equipment that I could find online (I paid about $690.00 for mine a year or so ago). I see that now it is only $299.99
Since spring and summer are approaching (although you would never know it based on today's temperture), I'd thought I'd bump this thread RE: GPSs....

Good Morning Rob. I just got a 2720 and saw your post on antenna. Will an antenna help indoor reception? Jay
I doubt it, but I never tried it. Where it really helps is in congested urban areas like New York City and Philadelphia and on tree lined and covered roads. Thats where I've found it to make a big difference.

On cloudy and overcast days my unit no longer has trouble picking up the satellite signals.
