Default Heating next winter

As we sit here basking in summers warmth.... I decided to take a glance at heating oil futures for next winter delivery. ouch!!

they're running about $3.19 a gal at the moment. ( it was 2.80 a week or so ago. )

although this is the period when contracts for the winter get signed so a little run up isn't entirely unexpected.

So I'm guessing $3.50-$3.75 delivered to the home.
Gonna be a long cold winter with the thermostat set at 40°F.

Here you go! Buy a couple of these:

You may also want to turn the thermostat down, 40 degree's is to high!

So glad we were able to ditch the oil furnace. Where is natural gas on the price scale?

Natural Gas is very abundant, so even though it will go up, it should be significantly less than oil.

I just need the housing market to recover so I can sell my big house and down size to a more efficient home. I'm hoping that will happen in the next couple of months.

We are hoping to convert to natural gas now that it has arrived in our area. Propane is high and we are on a budget plan to avoid the high bills we experienced last winter.

We converted from oil to natural gas last year. I paid around $1100.00 for natural gas in the last twelve months. That includes, heat, hot water and cooking and clothes drying. A real bargain in my book. If I had been using oil, I would have spent $1500-$1800.00, just to heat the house. The heating bill was cut almost in 1/2 by converting to natural gas.

I'm on a budget plan with the gas company. I pay $90.00/month. The budget re-adjustment is due. I almost broke even at the $90.00/month. It will probably go up a bit when I get the figures next month, but I'm sure I'll still be well ahead of heating with oil.

I love my little house and natural gas
Best things I have done are the 96.5% efficient furnace and the on-ddmand hot water
For me I stay away from the budget plan, it's summer, my monthly gasoline bill is big and my utility bill is small
In the winter it's opposite so it balences itself out

I discussed this a couple of winters back when I replaced my boiler. Over two years with an attempt at "normalizing' my usage, it appears that I am saving ~60% through the change in hardware and the costs of fuel.

I used ~1600-1700 gallons of oil to keep my house at 68 with my old Wiel-McLain boiler. At $3.70/gal, (my last oil bill, still have oil heat for the pool, but use it VERY infrequently), that's ~$6K. Year one with gas was ~$1600 and year 2 was ~$2200 and I now keep my thermostat at 70.
Jerry, can you bribe a gas company exec to get the gas line to you?
