Hobbies and Stuff
One of the people I have gotten to know here had purchased 72 acres of wooded land he, his wife and friends use for hunting, camping, etc. They had already built 7 disc golf holes on it and Saturday I went to help them add 4 more, so it was mixed day of playing the original holes, planning the next 4, doing a bit of brushogging and chain sawing, adding the new baskets and then grabbing beers and playing it all the way through again which was a blast. I probably should not have stayed up til 1am drinking and playing pool the night before getting up at 5:30am to go do that but you know . weekends ... who needs sleep on weekends??

Back on topic, my daughter and I started our first thrown pottery class yesterday. Basically the type where you "thrown" the clay on the center of a wheel that you then spin. We have talked about it for years and I finally got us signed up for a 4 weeks class. Was really fun learning this together. I have always loved making things and so has my daughter. When we finish this class we are talking about trying the next intermediate class then when that is over I am hoping I can find a glass blowing class that we could both join, though that one will be quite a bit more expensive I am guessing. We both just want learn how to do anything related to making things. Now that she is in high school I am beginning to teach her how to make a slip joint knife. I normally like making an automatic and or a slip joint style folding knife. The slip joint is much easier and faster to make though so that is where we are going to start. Oh, and if anyone knows of classes for wood carving around the Kansas City Missouri area feel free to comment! Probably not, but never hurts to ask. Just another thing we've talked about learning.
Those sound like some very fun father / daughter activities to do together.
