Move to MA! It will be easier. No smoking in public places, even bars.

Hey Mike!
Good news, and I hope you succeed. Assuming I make another 5 days, it'll be 5 months smoke-free for me. August 18. 2010 at about 6pm. Best move I ever made!

I'm on day 14 so I have a long way to go to get to where you are.

Good suggestion. Hard to light a cigarette when your fingers are frozen to the point of uselessness.

So very true! Our delightful winter weather was also a factor in Rick's decision to quit. A friend used to let folks smoke in his basement/party room. He warned everyone that as of January 1, 19__ no more smoking in his house.
Rick continued for a while, heading outside whenever it was time for a smoke. Down the line he got tired of freezing his A$$ off. Another good reason to quit, along with playing singles tennis vs doubles and having a difficult time breathing.

The habits can be the hardest part to break.
some 6 or 7 years after I quit I hopped in the car to drive somewhere.
About 30 seconds down the road the cigarette lighter popped up.
I had no recollection of pushing it in but since I was the only one in the car...

Years after he quit smoking, MANY years, my Dad used to reach in his pocket for a cigarette if he was puttering around in his little shed or in the yard. Then he would remember he didn't smoke any more.

I never started smoking, so I can only empathize through having observed my wife and other friends struggle with quiting. I don't know of anyone who had an easy time of it. Hang in there, Mike.
Day 17. Still smoke-free. No slip-ups yet.
This weekend was easier than last weekend. Keeping busy helped. It finally warmed up enough outside to wash the dust off of the NSX.
Tomorrow pool league starts up again. That should be interesting. I will be heading over to our sponsoring tavern after work to get in some practice. The tables are open (free) on Mondays.
