Ike
Jim, is your house a little higher than the street? When I lived "near" you on Buffalo, the streets would fllood horribly but fortunately my house was a tiny bit higher and thankfully on pier and beam.
I hope you folks are all prepared (as you can be), and stay vigilant and safe. We'll be thinking about you and waiting to hear from you when it's past.

This morning during high tide in Long Beach, MS parts of US Hwy 90 are under water. The entire pier system at the small craft harbor is under water. In the area many small bridges are under water as water from the gulf pushes into bayous, bays, and rivers. This is at high tide but the tides here typically range over a foot or less.
And the center of Ike is 320 miles southwest of us.
I mention all this as a warning to anyone who lives along the Louisiana and Texas coast. It's not that big a deal here. Most of the flooding here is limited to low lying roads and bridges so for us its just an inconvenience. But it will be far worse closer to the eye.

You are one of the level-headed ones, Jim...So do your best to keep your neighbors from doing anything foolish.
Good luck in the storm. Let us know how it went after you get your power/Internet back.

[QUOTE=MsPerky,Sep 12 2008, 02:38 AM] Not to make light of the situation, but this is pretty funny!
We are again in the hurricane season. You may soon be turning on the TV and seeing a weather person pointing to some radar blob out in the Gulf

Our son-in-law's grandmother lives in Houston, and has decided to stay put in her house. This scares the rest of us, so I hope that there are some members that can tell me what's going on there.
Thanks,
Marty
