A little while ago one of the Texas officials made the comment that they may lose 125,000 homes in low lying areas.
Hopefully those people have gotten out or this could make Katrina look mild.

Houston/Galveston Radar

This is the long-range base reflectivity image, showing, essentially, rain. It'll loop and automatically refresh to the latest scan if you tell it to.

Strap in, Jim. It's gonna be a rough night for y'all. HPH

It's a little after midnight here and it looks like the center of the storm is just a stone's throw from land. Best wishes to those of you in the path.

According to the TV weather, the storm is still moving, but the eye went right over NE Houston. The NWS at Hobby Airport has a 6 AM (CDT) report of 75 mph with gusts to 92 mph.

I hope everyone is OK.

The radar, via the link I posted, is working this morning.

Now, those installations are hardened and sometimes have backup generators. But the hardening only goes so far. The fact that it's still (or once again; maybe it went down over night at some point) up is a good sign. HPH

^^^ Here is a Link to the hourly data from Hobby. The highest winds were just reported at 6 AM.

You have a point about the hardening. The radar and anemometer are still working, but the temp and wet bulb temp and pressure are out.

A Weather Channel reporter was at a Hilton in Houston (don't know which one) where all the windows were blowing out (nine stories). She was phoning in from a stairwell.
