..and somewhat surprised by just how many of you owned the 'Best Of British' sports car offerings! I suppose it says something that you all wax so lyrical about them despite the erm... quirky characteristics of many of them!
In recognition of your loyalty I intend to contact Lucas Electrical and see to it that each of you is presented with a mounted pair of Lucas headlamps with a suitable inscription..... 'In recognition of your years of unswerving loyalty in the face of adversity from The Prince Of Darkness'

Tonky,
You remind me of an old American saying, "The British drink warm beer because they have Lucas refrigerators."
No offense intended; just another take on the "Prince of Darkness" theme.

Wow, this forum brings back memories -- both good and a few unhappy ones. Were it not for my love of the driving experience in my little MG Midget years ago, I'd never have tried out the S2k!!! I wanted another real sports car (and being a little arrogant thought it would have to be european), so . . . tried out a mercedes 230slk. What a disappointment!!! It just did not have the handling and feeling I wanted -- on to the S2k -- One turn around the parking lot and I knew this was the car for me!!!! It gave me that wonderful sports car driving experience again -- SO my quirky, tempermental little MG Midget (cute little thing), is responsible for my now owning this gorgeous S2k!!! I, too, remember carburetor problems, electrical problems, and aggravation -- but I wish I still had my baby MG.

While British cars could be a pain in the arse mainly because of Lucas there was nothing else in America that was as fun to drive. Well, at least that most of us could afford. I even owned US TR7 Serial # 00017.

I wish I still had my MGB and my MG-TD. Together with my S they are my all time favorite cars.

I had a Japanese MGB, my Datsun 1600 Roadster. It had wonderful Japanese electrics that worked. It did however have the sidedraft SU's and the top that leaked when it rained or snowed. It also had 23 hose clamps under the hood that only leaked when the temperature was below 30. Half of them were next to impossible to reach. The leaking hose clamps were what drove me to purchase my first Honda, a 1977 Civic hatchback. Nothing leaked on it, the sheet metal just disappeared. I've never had a car that rusted anywhere near as bad as that car did.
When I see my S2000 and I think of the other cars that I have owned, I appreciate it all the more.
