Our faithful moderator, Jim, has been one of the biggest supporters of my Austin Healey restoration. As much as I hate uploading and posting pictures, I figured I would take the time to update Jim and the rest of you on a real milestone in the restoration; the first drive. As with every British car, the event was not without drama.
Here she is with her stable-mate, the Red Baron.
While the interior and top are far from complete, there is enough in there to get behind the wheels and operate the controls.
Exiting the garage:
Out into the air.
And Huston, we have a problem! The clutch has disappeared.
Maybe if it associates with these Hondas it we learn to be dependable???
It seems the "technician" forgot to install a cotter pin. The clevis pin fell out and the clutch became inoperable.
British cars keep you flexible.
Let's see, flashlight in one hand, the cotter pin in the other hand, the clevis pin in my other hand... Wait, I'm out of hands. Switch the flashlight to my chin.
The cotter pin installation is a success! We have clutch, we have motion.
Now to challenge the driveway!!!
And now, on to the street!!!
I managed to engage the first three gears running up and down my street. Here is the happy owner:
Time to return to the garage, motivation restored, and spirits high!!
My son looks on in amazement. He never thought the old man could do it!
Well, needless to say, this little run lit a fire under me. I'm now pushing ahead with the final steps. Stay tuned.
Wow, Bill, that's a wonderful BD present! A milestone! The Healey restoration is a project that I really admire! Thanks for posting the photos and update. Now you have to put those shiny new knock off wire wheels on!
