Hey. Nobody said data security was fun for end users either.
After a large number of years being involved with Network security, I can truthfully say the weakest link is sitting behind the keyboard in an office somewhere.
Everything is set up the way I want it on my new one. Now the big question is what to do with the old one. Since the drive is dead I can't do an erase. There is only one sensitive financial file in it and it's encrypted but in this day and age I'm not sure how much that means. It is a hulk, 26.5" wide by 20" high with attached stand and weighs a whopping 31 pounds! They are built so its near impossible to take them apart. Would you trust taking it to Best Buy to recycle?

Who made it? Dell, IBM (Lenovo), Hastily Putrid ....erm, HP? Apple you can send to them and they'll recycle it. PC type machines you should be able to find and electronics recycler with Google.
Since my last post I was able to erase the drive and have confirmed that. So I am comfortable taking it in for recycling. I have tried reinstalling the 2011 software that came with it after doing the erase. No luck.
