Uhoh...the S is not in there. Are you trying to break it to us slowly?

^^^ Deb, the S2000 is still solidly with me. It is still in the shop being refurbished (for several months). The mechanic is an established racing engine builder. The car is in good hands, but he and his family have had the flu, and other tjings have intervened. I keep checking on the car regularly. I purchased the new short block from my Honda Dealer in August. They did me a favor, getting it for me. Those are apparently getting very scarce nowadays. The car is up on the lift with the new block installed, but the head is still at the machine shop being completely upgraded and ported. It has taken way too much time, but - what can I do. He is picking up the head this week; so well, progress is slow. LOL The new short block was not entirely needed, but I was determined to do a complete refurbish. The car will be like new when I get it back.

I think I have a potential buyer for $20K +. If so, it's probably oudda here. Who knows. But I am not going to give the car away. Lots of personal and family history there, not to mention the incredible friendships that the S has initiated and made possible.

Your call as to whether or not to sell it, but here's my story...

In 1999 I bought 3-year-old Holden Commodore with 65,000mi on it, with the aim of turning it into a project car once the dodgy transmission let go. I abused that thing like I hated it. It towed anything, went anywhere, and refused to suffer any major breakdowns, just simple things like a dead fuel pump in later years. It was the car that we used as a general workhorse when we renovated houses. It was the car that bogged itself in a muddy paddock, and I left to drive itself out while I pushed it from behind because there was no one else around to help. It was the car that carried my wife and I from our wedding reception to our honeymoon night hotel. It was the car that carried my newborn son around, and later my newborn daughter as well. It was the car that took our young family on trips up and down the country, and no matter how beat up it was, it just kept on going, dents, scratches, neglect and all. I pushed a dent out of the side of it one day and my young daughter cried because I'd "changed it".

Finally, in mid-2018 we decided it wasn't really safe as a family vehicle any more, and we didn't really have the space for it, so with feelings of sadness mixed with determination, I drove it to the wrecker's and turned it into a cube. I'm not ashamed to admit I teared up a little as I drove away with $200 and memories.

A year later we bought our new place, complete with 10 car garage and enough space that we could leave a car around and not even need to move it if we didn't want to. The only thing missing from our "forever" home is the fifth member of our family - our beat-up, leaky old 200,000-plus-mile 1996 Holden Commodore.

Hmmm. 20 year old Holden Commodore or $200?

Actually it was the previous model that looked like this:

Buick L36 power! The point is though, there's still plenty rolling around and we could pick one up for a song if we wanted one, but it wouldn't be our Commodore, with all its history and memories.
