I don't have an antenna as a television didn't come with it. I don't think it would work. The cable company has made it difficult to pick up signals for even regular channels, I think. It doesn't matter anyway.

 

I guess you don't watch much TV. No antenna and no cable?

 

It has been a real snooze fest for years. I had it on, but wound up finishing a biography of photographer Robert Capa. I find it so controlled, packaged and organized that it is boring. It makes me long for the days when it would go on until 3am, with people refusing their Oscars or making long speeched denouncing or in defence of the Vietnamese War, or sending in Sasheen Littlefeather to pick up Marlon Brando's award and giving a speech on the genocide of the native peoples. Or the naked streaker running behind David Niven and Niven's comment. You would never get something that uncontrolled today. I also liked sitting through the endless technical Academy Awards, just dying to know who won the ones that we are more interested in. Today's awards ceremony? Just a bore.

 

Didn't watch it, haven't in years!

 

I thought Michael Clayton was fantastic. I thought the entire cast did an excellent job.
Happy for Tilda Swinton, but disappointed for George Clooney, and Tom Wilkinson. They couldn't compete with Daniel Day-Lewis and Javier Bardem.
I saw most of the nominated films since my daughter works for our local theater and we get free tickets.

Almost all the nominated films had depressing endings. Michael Clayton and Juno were the only ones that I left with a good feeling.
As far as the awards show it was pretty lame. Guess they haven't gotten over the writers strike yet.

 

Was planning on watching it, but at 1 a.m. Sunday a lightning bolt hit power lines near my house and took out the transfomer on the power pole 20 feet behind my garage. I was without power for 24 hours. The repair crew left at 1:30 this morning.
The thunder the lightning caused shook me awake, as it sounded like it was in the bedroom with me. Funny thing was no other strikes, or thunder sounds the entire night. Like Mother Nature was aiming for something....

 

Oscars Are a TV Ratings Dud

The Oscars are a ratings dud. Nielsen Media Research says preliminary ratings for the 80th annual Academy Awards telecast are 14 percent lower than the least-watched ceremony ever.

Nielsen said Monday that overnight ratings are also 21 percent lower than last year, when "The Departed" was named best picture.

The least-watched Oscars ceremony ever was in 2003, when there were 33 million viewers.

Nielsen has no estimate yet on how many people watched Sunday night, but based on ratings from the nation's biggest markets, the Oscars will be hard-pressed to avoid an ignominious record.

The show had a 21.9 rating and 33 share.

I should add that during commercials I was switching to KCET and learned all about birds of prey. I should have stayed on that channel. Very interesting stuff and footage taken from a flying bird, with a backpack camera on.
