Not sure how many hospitals we have in the DC area, but there are a lot of good ones! If you bump it to 50 miles, you include Johns Hopkins. I use docs from the recommended list for my health plan, since it is expensive to go outside. But there are so many on there, it's not a problem.

One of the criteria for us when we were looking to retire to a warmer climate was hospitals and doctors. The closest (and newest) is only 2 miles away. You cannot throw a spitball down here without hitting a doctor. Apparently they enjoy golfing, fishing and surfing. If we want to go to a huge medical center, its only 70 miles to MUSC in Charleston. We have not been unhappy with the medical care here.
