This hard-wiring works fine for gadgets that come with the right sort of cables. However, gadgets with 12-V plugs need to be handled with care, because some of them are really 5-V gadgets with a converter in the 12-V plug. So if you cut the plug off and hardwire that cable, you can fry your gadget.
Gotta watch out for those fried gadgets -- they could burn up the whole car. HPH
I like my fried gadgets rare. 
About my not wearing glasses any more. My far vision has been improving for about the last 5 years. They finally got to a point where I was able to retake the drivers license eye test without glasses and passed!! No surgery required. Guess some things improve with age.
