Dave.

You traded your pain for an itch. Great choice, would have recommended it but I came late. I love mine. I'm sure you'll love yours too.
Even the geek squad person that took back my pc admited their personal pc at home was a Mac (as did three of the four salesmen I spent time with at Best Buy). Even as thick headed as I can be, I'm starting to see the light.

It took me years to see the light, Dave. A few months ago I went in to buy a new desktop computer and couldn't resist the iMac with 27 inch display all-in-one. Don't know why it took so long. Colleagues have been telling me to buy a Mac for years.

Dave, I'm very, very jealous. My first computer was an Apple and I LOVED it.
I'll readily admit that cost was the ONLY factor in my switchover to other brands. Next time . . .

Lainey, I've been using IE, Microsoft Outlook (full version) and Outlook Express for the past 10 years. I know they reportedly have programing holes to attract virus and worms but I had good experiences with the programs. But, I thought I would take advantage of the upgrade to change out all the weak stuff for the new and reportedly good stuff. I knew it was big undertaking to change everything at the same time (new OS, new browser, new email service, switch to wireless pc, switch from tower to laptop, switch to a wireless keyboard/mouse, switch search engines, update drivers and apps, etc., etc.) but I thought I would take my time and do it right. I expected a steep learning curve but not the mess I ran into.
I hear ya, Dave.

I don't like it when the websites I visit change their page structure, I can't imagine all the changes you were attempting.

You gave it your best shot. You're not into this for the aggravation. If you wanted aggravation, you'd still be working, right?

on your move to Mac.

Ah, the big screen! I'm tempted to dive in and do the same. Toss up between MacBook Pro vs iMac tower & size.

Jim, a big concern I have is how a Mac will treat my current files. I have hundreds of WordPerfect text documents, numerous MS Publisher (text/photo) files, and several Excel data files. Anyone know?

One thing that was very positive out of my experience was the Logitech ergonomic combo MK550 keyboard. I just loved it and the features, like zoom, that you had at your finger tips.

Dave, thanks for the succinct answer! I might pick up a used Toshiba laptop sometime and wondered if that was your problem, but sounds like everything was.

Can someone (Gene, Val?) give me the steps to adding a .gif to my signature? I went to the personal profile but don't see how to get it from my computer into my signature area. Thanks. I thought I was computer literate, but I have problems even quoting people. (is there a help menu here for this stuff?)

Morris, From my short experience with Toshiba I think their laptops are fine. I've no idea why the mouse pad needed reseting but their support was fine and resolved it. I thought the burner tray felt really flimsy.

On another note, I'm told by Logitech they do not make a waive keyboard for a Mac. US sales wasn't sure and transfered me to India (how odd) and they wanted me to give them my name and inturn they wanted to give me a reference no (preprogrammed support person). Initially they too were unsure. Then said no. Yet they list Mac software downloads with a picture of a waive keyboard. (go figure). Did I mention how much I hate this stuff!!!
