RIP John McCain
I guess ragtophardtop is a member...I saw Registered User and that usually means not a member. Anyhoo...it's irrelevant to Jim's decision to edit the thread versus moving it. It is a hard call, but as a mod, it is his prerogative which to do. I don't believe he singled out posts according to his political leanings. It is true that, implicitly, this could be labeled a political thread. However, it's when it crosses into *explicitly* political comments that it becomes a problem. As a longtime S2Ki member and co-founder of Vintage, I have respect for Jim's impartiality in moderating and do not agree that he was heavy handed in this situation. He has my full support.
Thank you, Deb, for the supportive comments.

And the posting rules here state;
“5. In order to insulate the main Vintage Forum from heated political discussion and/or arguments, the the S2ki administration has created a Vintage Politics Subforum for threads and posts that are judged to have a title or content dealing with politics or religion. Members please feel free to contribute your political opinions and views in that venue. (cf. Politics posting rules.) The Vintage Moderators reserve the right to move threads or posts from the main Vintage Forum over to the Politics Subforum if it is deemed appropriate. Or posts in main Vintage threads that deal with politics or religion may be edited or deleted by the moderators at their discretion”.
We do not muck up the threads in Vintage with debates about moderating. Please use PMs if you need to comment or disagree with a decision...
Thanks

I was at a football game, so I recorded it. I especially liked the George Bush talk and Obama’s. I thought they attempted to be both laudatory and honest. Each included both positive comments and also their history of disagreements with McCain, (and the man’s admitted imperfections). Megan’s comments about her father were moving, too. The speeches clearly reflected that McCain was widely respected throughout his Washington years by both sides of the aisle. As a senator, father, and as an honest, decent human being he will be missed.
Did you see the footage where the plastic protecting the flag on McCain's casket blew off and landed on the head of one of the body bearers? The guy did not flinch. Completed his duty, never touching the plastic. After the body of McCain was loaded into the hearse, another member (not one carrying the body) gently removed the plastic, removed the service members hat, and re-positioned the hat. The service member was still at attention. Amazing. Found this on line about those who perform that service.
