Interesting theory about the boom-bust cycles of American industry -- it evokes a "Mad Max"-ish vision of future car-to-car combat on rutted roads.
I must say, most suburban DC jurisdictions are "fairly" quick about repairing potholes, but this may change as more and more cutbacks occur at the local level. The District has horrible roads, because it has no tax base. There's next to no industry in DC, and the Federal Government will never let the city council impose a tax on commuters from VA and MD.

Mad Max? It hasn't been that long since you guys had to worry about snipers when you went out. Hopefully such things are cycles rather than trends.
