Of course it's a scam.

Without seeing the original (and I really don't want to, so please don't forward it), it's hard to tell how the scam part works. Some of these come with delivery receipts (where, if you are set up for it, a little box will tell you that the sender wants receipt notification and should your computer send it? -- I ALWAYS say "never"), and it could be that these receipts serve to help build their email "easy mark" list. It could be that some mail clients respond in such a way as to tell them something when you (and your victims) open it.

There are simply no free lunches out there, folks. HPH

I just got this one at work. Unfortunately, I cannot copy it in the html format that it arrived in. I really looks good, but its a spam none the less.

Here's one that will amuse you, Rob (like you, I can't copy the images and other html content, which all looks quite official--the "click here" is the link to a server with only an IP number, no name)...

Boy you know that's a scam. The IRS can't process anything in less than 90 days, not 9!!!
Readers Digest (yes I read it, I am Vintage after all) had an article on scams. A good one I had not heard of was a person calling to tell you that there is an bench warrant about to be issued for your arrest. The charge is failure to appear for Jury duty. They expect, of course, that you will say you never got noticed, then proceed to help you straighten things out to stop the warrant. They will ask for personal info. Wouldn't you be glad to give it to avoid arrest?
