Sorry this is too late to help OP. Stayed in Gatlinburg last year as a base to access parks and the Dragon. Drove the rental car like I stole it Gatlinburg was tolerable as a tourist town, Pigeon Forge would make a great set for a National Lampoon family vacation comedy. Oh, the bears; not big but more like dangerous rats. They forage through the town looking for food. Family pets and garbage cans have equal appeal. As a California boy, I was surprised at the number of bears in the area; be careful while hiking in the woods.
