I've been thinking about a tattoo for quite awhile, but probably won't get one. Have you thought about what you would do with the "Rori" tat if it doesn't work out? (J/K - )
Yes, I have a contingency plan in place, and not just for Rori. I never know how I'm going to feel about my kids from day to day either.

Rori also had my name incorporated into her tattoo, so she's limited to hooking up with another Dean should I screw up very badly.

Not me, my hero was Popeye the Sailor Man!
I yam what I yam. Popeye was my favorite as a kid too. My brother in law looks like he should be in a carnival with all of his tatoos. Good guy though so that is all that matters.

As for thinking it through, I've been wanting to do this for well over twenty years.

Ahhh...then you've already slept on it for a night or two.

Best of luck in your ink decisions. I have a feeling you'll pick something that works for you, given this isn't just a drunken whim. Looking forward to some pics.

As long as you do have a clue, I guess it's all good.

And you learn something every day: I didn't know about "sleeves." I've seen 'em, for sure, but didn't know they had a name. How long a process is this, anyway? HPH

That's not a bad idea. I think an arm, particularly mine, is too small a canvas to do something like that justice. That would make for a very good back tattoo, but I refuse to shave mine for such a project.
How about a conger eel wrapped around your arm?

Maybe you can get some inspiration from this site:

Very nice Deb. Dean, I still think you could stack up a bunch of those and create a nice representation of the water column. Some of those arms are pretty skinny.

I'm probably facing six to eight hours of work per sleeve. A few hours having everything outlined and then a session or two spent on shading everything.

I think I'm going to go with a nearly full-sized, live (not red), Homarus americanus with a background of seaweeds, seagrasses, and perhaps a small school of Scomber scombrus also in the background.
