I'll think of you every time I have a lobster roll.

I watched a chilling show on the Sundance channel last night. A documentary called The End of the Line about the overfishing of the international fish stocks. Most of it focussed on blue fin tuna, but one comment made during the show was how the recent increase in the lobster population in Canada and New England is the direct result of the decimation of the cod fishery. Removing one species allows another to explode. But of course, because lobster is valuable, the increase will result in more lobster fishing which will ultimately deplete the lobster stocks again.

It was all very depressing.

 

Yes, it is. And it's the main reason that I've all but given up eating seafood. Unless it's farmed, I catch it myself, or I know it to have been caught or collected by ecologically friendly means.

 

So sad.
