I really DISLIKE (AKA HATE) glide pads. Since my first experiences with them on my employer furnished IBM Think Pad a while back, I have lost entire multi-paragraph E-mails because I have accidentally had my right thumb hit the glide pad. Although with the T40 Think Pad I did use the little "joy stick" and liked the convenience of not having to hook up a mouse. On my current employer furnished Dell and on my own Dell Net Book the first thing that I do is disable the glide pad. I use a USB wireless mini mouse that works fine with my Net Book on the arm of my Lazy Boy.

Additionally, for some reason half of the time the glide pads did not respond to my touch. Made me think that I may have died and did not realize it.

As I used the netbook and the touch pad a bit more, I'm getting a bit more proficient with the touch pad. I don't hate it, but I'm glad I have the mouse too.

I've had a laptop since 01, and while I can make do w/o a mouse on the road when I use the computer for "play", I really prefer a real mouse when doing any sort off real "work" on it

That being said, I know and use most keyboard shortcuts whenever possible and have added a few custom ones to my current machine.

Love the touch pad on the MacBook Pro. So many short cuts.
our MacBook touch pad is great, but I won't give you $0.10 for the touchpad on my Dell or Lenovo laptops

You will get used to the touch pad.

I prefer the mouse when I'm working at a desk, but I've now gotten used to the touch pad for when I'm not.

I never use the little stick pointer device, but some people really like that one too. Others much prefer a trackball. As noted, some like a touch screen. A lot of it is just what you get used to.

So - where have you been lately? I thought you'd joined an engineering monastery.

Busy.

And I was in Switzerland for a couple weeks, but that was several months ago.

Mike...

Using touchpad now. Netbook internet surfing while seated in recliner. Have I mentioned I really like this gadget?

I set up my granddaughter's netbook for her and delivered it tonight. I hope she's happy with it.

I recently switched to an iMac and bought their version, called a trackpad. It is far superior to a normal touchpad.

I just bought the Logitech wireless wave combo keyboard & mouse. Can't wait to try it out.
