The Vintage Weather Thread
Bitter cold will be holding on until Mon. Worst days are Fri and Sat in terms of temps. The +1 is leaving shortly for NJ where he will have his kids for a week with Grandma. They should have no trouble flying in tomorrow from Memphis, but a coastal storm is threatening the whole East Coast tomorrow into Thurs. Remains to be seen what will develop for points north as far as snow goes.
The outside temperature was near 6 degrees when returning home. Placed the wool cap outside on a wind protected chair within a few seconds after noticing the snowflake accumulation…switched to a macro lens, and mounted the camara onto a tripod and visited the wool cap.
The snowflakes were photographed inches away using a 100MM macro lens, f9 aperture, 2 second exposure with a 2 second shutter delay (it was cloudy with a somewhat directional low light),100 ISO, and then cropped to 75% of the original.
Even after a few seconds exposure to the inside temperature the flakes began to melt.
Hope this helps.

9 degrees this AM. Miserable week ahead, weekend looks so damn cold! On the plus side my frozen flowers in ice are going to last a while. I was going to try for a frozen bubble, but the "bubble stuff" I had around (for a long time) wasn't working....I guess bubble stuff can go bad. It was too late in the day to mess with making my own. Maybe this weekend. I believe we'll be spending a lot of time hanging around inside.....
"A major storm will track close enough to the East Coast of the United States to bring snow to some areas and windy conditions to much of the Atlantic Seaboard later this week.
The storm will have both direct and indirect impacts from Florida to Maine and Atlantic Canada.
Arctic air will remain in place and will spread southward into Florida as the storm brews a few hundred miles offshore over the Atlantic Ocean and races northward on Wednesday and Thursday.
During this period, the storm may undergo rapid strengthening, sometimes referred to as bombogenesis."

yeah two days out and the meteorologists are talking with that excited little kid voice.
it's all about the storm track, storm track, storm track.
50-100 one way and I get 3 inches. 50-100 miles the other way and I get two feet,
right now it looks south and east for me to get really whacked but.... I suspect I'll be working from home Thursday.
